Gay marriage rights for California inmates?
Now that same-sex couples can get married in California, state prison officials are trying to figure out what that means for gay inmates. No prisoners so far have sought to arrange weddings with same-sex partners since the state Supreme Court granted same-sex couples the right to wed as of mid-June, according to Michele Kane, spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Nonetheless, department lawyers are drafting guidelines to bring the state’s 33 adult prisons into compliance with the court’s ruling that same-sex couples must be treated the same as opposite-sex couples under the California Constitution, Kane said. What they have determined so far is that would mean allowing gay inmates to marry someone on the outside, but not a fellow prisoner – the same rules that apply to straight inmates, according to Kane.

The unclaimed bodies of close to 80 victims of Hurricane Katrina have finally been entombed – nearly three years after the storm – by a group of funeral home owners who said they took it upon themselves to inter the remains because they felt the city and coroner’s office were too slow to do so. Workers scrambled to complete the memorial by Friday’s third anniversary of the storm on what was vacant land just five weeks ago. Six mausoleums make up part of the memorial located at the end of a historic streetcar line. Many believed the fatigued city would have no place to inter the 85 bodies. The city coroner, already grappling with one of the nation’s worst murder rates, was placed in charge of the $1.2 million effort last year and progress was slow.

Potter’s Radcliffe Reveals Brain Disorder
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe told the British Daily Mail newspaper that he suffers from a little-known brain disorder that is often associated with clumsiness.
Radcliffe told the paper that he has dyspraxia, a common neurological problem that impairs the organization of movement and often has no obvious cause.
Among other things, the condition means the 19-year-old still has trouble tying his shoelaces.
Radcliffe revealed that he became an actor partly because his dyspraxia meant he was not successful at school.
The newspaper reported that Radcliffe’s dyspraxia is at the mild end of the spectrum, but in severe cases it can make it difficult to walk up and down stairs or run, hop, jump or kick a ball. In adults, , it can affect a person’s ability to perform in stressful or challenging situations and make tasks such as driving difficult.

Alvin Thacker started T&T Laser Fabrication and Machine in 1997 with his brothers Ronal and Donald.
The investment capital was simple – their life savings, he said.
The first three months were very tight, especially when a major job fell through, Thacker said.
They had to do real footwork to find enough jobs to keep the Wellington-based company running, he said.
They ran the machines 24/7 for the first three years, before finally throttling back and cutting down on weekend jobs, he said.

Coosa Entertainment Group LLC is touting its years of experience with major construction projects and local connections in its bid to be selected by the Etowah County Commission as the developer for an electronic bingo and commercial development.
The firm, along with CBS Supply of Mount Pleasant, S.C., will be allowed to make 30-minute presentations to the public at 8 a.m. Monday on their developments.
After the presentations, the public will be allowed to comment — for or against — on electronic bingo, Etowah County Chief Executive Officer Patrick Simms said. However, questions will not be permitted.
In an interview with The Times, Jud Dawson, chief executive officer of Dawson Building Contractors, said because of being a local developer with many developments throughout the country in its 50 years in business, this project is something his company has the experience and ability to develop within a feasible length of time.
A fact sheet provided by Coosa Entertainment Group stressed its roots in Etowah County and its $1 billion worth of completed projects across the country.
