NEW YORK – Google says five U.S. universities have signed on for its Internet-based applications including e-mail and instant messaging.
Google’s relationship with the universities gives it a wider audience for applications that compete with Microsoft Corp popular programs. Google Apps Education Edition is a free service for e-mail, online calendars, documents and spreadsheets.
Schools newly signed on to the program are University of North Carolina Greensboro, Clemson University, University of Texas San Antonio, Kennesaw State University and Arkansas State University, Google said.
Universities that already use Google’s programs include the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Trinity College in Dublin and Nihon University in Tokyo.

Life’s Weaving – Ann’s Items – About my genealogy
A Link in Time
From lands and seas that I shall never know,
complex roads have merged their path to me.
Translucent threads of ancient lives before
interwove this web which is my pedigree.
Cultures of many nations formed the loom,
and laced the strands of fiber to evolve
a potpourri of souls who braved the path
of destiny with passion and resolve.
And now this fertile ribbon which I weave
a plait to braid and join the next in line;
people and histories which I may only dream
may know about this link in time that’s mine.©

Spent about fifteen minutes out looking at the sky; leaving the cats wondering what I was doing out in the dark.
It is just after midnight — I saw one very brilliant falling star. It moved from the center of the high night sky straight above me, and moved in a north-easterly direction.
I have much to do Monday, or I would spend a bit more time watching the ‘meteor shower’ for this year. For now, one brilliant shooting star is enough.
And how was your evening?

Here’s a tidbit from ABC33/40’s weather notes:
“…Dog Days End Today…
This will be one of those cases where the thermometer will not agree
with the calendar. Today marks the official end to the Dog Days. The
Dog Days are named for the Egyptian belief that during the period of
time from July 3 through August 11 when the Dog Star Sirius rises and
falls with the sun, that the star added to the heat of the Sun...."
